Subject: PX4F in .40
Submitted By: Sr. Agent Jim Smiley, Chehelem Valley Protective Svcs
Product: PX4 |
When my Chief bought a PX4, I was hopeful, yet skeptical. After all, I had a Glock 19 on me that had digested well over 1,000 rounds of SMG ammo, with no parts failures.
The first thing that came out of my mouth was, "Was that a .40?" Indeed it was. We went through over 300 rounds of cheap, dirty practice ammo, and the Beretta never failed to go bang. My subjective reading is that the felt recoil on the PX4 was equal or less than that of the M9.
Overall, the PX4 equaled my G19 for reliability, my SIG for the trigger smoothness, and the platform looks to be sturdier in .40 than the two competitor brands.
The result? We're looking seriously at buying PX4's in 9mm for all our field agents.

I recently purchased a new Pro Shop Custom. As an armorer in the US Army I am no stranger to the M9 platform. However, I have never seen such amazing accuracy as the day I fired my "Pro Custom". I was amazed at each shot from round one. This is a pure shooter! Mag after mag my smile just grew. Thank you for continuing to produce a product I am proud to carry on and off duty.

I'm a newly armed Canadian Customs officer who had never touched a gun in my life before shooting this handgun. After three days of shooting about 150 rounds a day - I practiced our qualification which involves shooting from as far as 75 feet - I scored 233 out of 250. The handgun is great for women with small hands - it has very little recoil and is light weight. It is also easy to clean and reassemble. LOVE MY GUN!!! Now, I'm thinking of buying myself one to compete in the US. (By the way, I shot 248 out of 250 at the official qual on the 10th day of training!!!)

When employed as a corrections officer, I carried a Beretta Model 92FS as my carry weapon during prisoner transports. During firearms qualification, I was very surprised by the reliability, and accuracy of this pistol. In fact, I was the only Beretta shooter in a sea of other manufacturers' weapons, and in every respect, the Model 92 functioned flawlessly! I wouldn't consider carrying anything else! Thanks for making such a fine product!

Dear Beretta,
I`m now retired from the U.S.C.G. and have trusted my life and those of my closest friends to your weapons - mainly 92f. Although I have only had to rely on it for protection once, it served flawlessly and saved my life. I now own my own 92FS and a 1911, as well as several other guns, but I must say the 92FS is my every day personnel carry weapon. I trust it with my life as well as those of my family. 500 years of quality and experience show in every product you make. I`ll always be a Beretta man, as will others in my family. Thank for great products.

My entire military
career has been during the M9's service to our country, so I will
leave the comparisons to its predecessor to those that have more
experience and just say, "If it's good enough for Gen. Tommy
Franks, then it's good enough for me!"
Until recently, my experience with other pistols had been limited
to revolvers and the semi-autos that my father would let me try
out. I recently had the opportunity to purchase a 92FS and was invited
to participate in a local gun clubs weekly IPSC matches. I am the
only 92FS shooter in the group. I am slower than most of the folks
I shoot with, being new to this type of shooting, but my scores
have stayed in the middle of the pack thanks largely to the accuracy
and reliability of my 92FS. I cannot tell you how many $2,000+ custom
"accuratized" something specials that I am shooting against
(several of which malfunction on regular occasions). Then, there's
me, with my stock 92FS right there with them. To add to it, the
reasonable cost of 9mm ammo gives me the ability to shoot more without
hitting the pocketbook so hard. For a beginning shooter, or old
pro, I would recommend going for the best...the quality, reliability,
and the safety of the 92FS.

I am a fairly new officer
for a large department in Colorado. Prior to getting on the job,
I knew that my weapon of choice was going to be a Beretta 92 series
based on having only fired it once. During my academy class I purchased
the 92FS Vertec (stainless). I was the only one out of 52 academy
recruits to purchase a Beretta, but I could not be happier. Almost
2 years later, and countless rounds fired, I have never had one
single problem!
Current day, my Beretta with the M3 tac light sits on my hip backing
me up.
My co-workers harp on me constantly about it only being a 9mm, but
I will never sway towards any other weapon system. Amongst a department
that typically carries another popular firearm and promotes it unforgivably,
I will never second guess my Beretta. Thank you Beretta for making
such a fine weapon!

As
a retired Marine I started with the Colt 1911 45 and the M-14 rifle.
I remember the change to the M16 and hated it. The weapon was junk
compared to the M14. I expected the same when we switched from the
1911 to the Beretta 92. Although I have never been a fan of the
9MM, I loved the weapon. It was by far the most dependable and reliable
pistol a person could have. Mine served me through out the world
in places like Bagdad, Beruit and Panama, to name a few. I retired
in 1992 from the Corps but not Beretta. I currently own and carry
a Mdl. 96, 84FS, and a Beretta Bobcat.
Never has any of these weapons failed me nor do I expect they ever
will.

I am a 13 year veteran
of law enforcement and currently serve as a police sergeant with
a municipal, California police agency.
My first experience with Beretta was in 1992 when I went through
the police academy in Visalia, California with a privately owned
92FS.
The weapon performed flawlessly and shot very tight groups. At
this time, the Glock was starting to take the shooting world by
storm and there were quite a few Glock 17's in use by cadets.
At our range, there was a big coffee can of 9X19 ammunition with
dents in the primers that had failed to ignite. At first, the range
personnel believed this was 'dud' ammunition. They were wrong.
I picked up and handful, loaded up a magazine and my Beretta 92FS
fired every round. It was later discovered the ammunition was 124
grain 'SMG' (NATO Spec) for use in the local SWAT team's MP-5's
and they had brought the ammo out for us to just 'burn up' since
they placed a shelf-life limit on their duty loads.
The Glock simply did not have enough inertia to fire the hard-primered
sub-machine gun loads.
I ended up shooting all the ammunition the Glocks could not ignite.
I carried the 92FS with the Woodlake Police Department as my duty
sidearm in 1993. It was light, portable and accurate. Teamed with
the Safariland SSIII Holster, I felt very confident with my weapons
system.
I also carried the 'M9' during my tour of duty with the U.S. Navy.
My current agency issues the H&K USP in .40 caliber S&W. It is
not an accurate, comfortable or reliable weapon. I have broken (3)
firing pins in just over 36,000 rounds fired. The double-action
trigger pull is heavy and 'notchy'. I had the weapon checked out
by an H&K armorer twice who said that's just the "nature of the
beast".
That response is completely unacceptable for a tool that you trust
your life to.
We recently adopted policy that allows each officer to carry the
weapon of his or her choice, so long as it is at least .40 caliber.
In response, I immediately purchased a Beretta 96FS.
I have the utmost confidence in the Beretta product. Apparently,
so does The Fresno Police Department which issues the 96FS to all
its personnel.
I appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into each Beretta pistol.
I could carry any weapon that I wanted, but nothing compares to
Beretta quality!

I am in the Marine
Corps and currently serving my second tour of duty in Iraq. When
the M-16 jams (which it usually does) just grab the M9. From the
first to fifteenth shot it will perform flawlessly every time. I
plan to purchase a Model 96. 40cal. when I return home. I have no
doubts this will prove to be an excellent personal carry weapon.
When I first qualified with the M9, I was using an older pistol
so the sights were a little out of alignment. It still shot an incredibly
tight group at 25 yards. Even though that pistol looked like it
had seen better days it still proved to have out of the box reliability
during the entire course. We have reservists out here that are police
officers back home. A lot of them carry the Model 96 and love it.
From the sands of Iraq to some of the meanest streets in the U.S.
the Beretta can’t be beaten.

I picked up the Px4
Storm today and I've got to say this: This pistol changes everything.
It has the best of every world in it. Doesn't fit your hand? Change
the back strap. You're a lefty? Change the magazine release button.
You're big thumb bumps the slide catch? Change it to a smaller slide
catch. You don't like the safety? Get the D Series. Don't like the
trigger? Get the Constant Action.
There are so many different ways to configure this gun to a shooters
hand, that you just can't go wrong with it.
How reliable is it? In 9mm, Beretta shot every major manufacturers
rounds through the Px4 and it performed flawlessly. I shot standard
115gr ball ammo through it and it gave me consistently tight groups
at different ranges. The rotating barrel absorbs recoil so that
your follow up shots are faster and more accurate. In 9mm the mags
hold 17 rounds + 1 in the pipe and you have 18 ready to go.
This is one smooth handgun and you just can't beat the price. Way
to go, Beretta! You've done it again.

I
am in the NC Army National and just recently returned from a tour
in Iraq. Unlike what most people think, Iraq is generally peaceful.
There are at any given time, four cities that are always fighting.
The media focuses on this only. The reason just about every servicemen
experience actual combat is because all the supply routes are through
one of those cities.
This past November (2004, I was on a routine supply run when the
convoy became under attack. We had two roadside bombs (IED)s, one
car bomb (VBIED) and small arms (SAF) contact. The M249 SAW light
machine gun jammed several times before stopping completely. I immediately
grabbed my M4 Carbine and continued to fight. I ran out of ammo,
so I retrieved my Beretta M-9 (92FS) and as I loaded my third magazine
the fight was over.
That was the worst night I had in Iraq. We had no KIA though several
WIA. We had eliminated all enemy opposition. If I hadn't had the
M-9 I wouldn't be here. Props to Beretta USA for making a fine pistol.
When I needed it the most, it never failed once. Thanks Beretta
for saving my life.

Q:

it? Thank You.
A: The basic difference
between your Centurion and a standard Beretta 96 is that the centurion
has a 4.3" barrel and proportionately shorter slide and dust
cover. the "G" denotes that your gun is Decock only and
does not have a decock/safety like the "F" models. Standard
92/96's have a 4.7 or 4.9 " barrel depending on model. A good
source for more information about your gun is one one of the many
Beretta user websites such as Berettaforum.net.

I have recently switched
to the Beretta 9mm as my primary duty weapon. My agency allows us
to carry a variety of manufactures. How to make the choice? I had
carried the 92FS in the Air Force in 1988. I did a lot of research
and asked a lot of Law Enforcement Armorers questions. Overall,
the 92 was the choice. One of the armorers agencies (They have carried
the Beretta 15 plus years) had just transitioned from the 92DAO
to the Glock 30. When I asked more questions he said that they would
have stayed with Beretta if they had a .45 ACP model available.
In the end the weapon of choice was the weapon I was most familiar
with, the most recommended and the one I was most comfortable with
— the 92. Kudos to Beretta for the high recommendations of
LEO Armorers.
The Glock is a fine weapon but the trigger pull
was too lite. It is also unforgiving of failing to lock your arms
and wrists. The Sig is also nice but the costs was higher and comfort
level lower.
Most went with the Glock or Sig. The Glocks had
numerous shooter issues and were jamming a lot. I will admit the
Sigs held their own. Hands down I know the Beretta was the right
choice.
I was the only one in the class with a Beretta.
The only problem was firing without a magazine in (Breech loaded
magazine well empty )— Jams (Stove Pipes) every time. Once
the weapon was breech loaded with a magazine inserted, it fired
flawlessly. Other than that the weapon has functioned flawlessly.

Got mine this past
weekend and am going to shoot it tomorrow with some of our SRT guys.
I'm psyched (!!) but a little bummed out that the largest capacity
.45 cal magazine on the market is only 9-rounds (the largest that
was comfortable with the 8045 Cougar pistol).
My greatest hope is that my agency will get that
weak 5.56-mm rifle out of our cruisers' trunks, and replace it with
this carbine. In our potential engagements — none of which
are greater than 100 yards, and most of which are within 25 yards
— I want to be firing .45 ACP (leaving a debilitating wound),
instead of 5.56 mm (leaving an angrier perp with one or more icepick-sized
penetrating wounds).
Pro-Mag (800.438-2547) is very interested in hearing
if there is a market out there for high capacity magazines (such
as a 20 rd mag) for the .45 Storm. If you call them please have
the receptionist take a message "for the technicians"
from you that includes at least the following information: First
Name, State, CX4 STORM IN .45 CAL, Desired capacity, number of mags
you might purchase.
If there is enough resonance out there, we could
very well see some high cap mags ... and even spacers for the area
between the bottom of the pistol grip and the base of the high cap
magazine. Thanks, especially to those of you that report a desire
to purchase such mags.

Well . . . finally did it, bought a pistol I've never shot simply
because it feels so great in my hand. It's an F-type 9000S in 40
S&W and my first Beretta. Unfortunately I've had it for two
whole days and haven't been able to make it to the range and my
teeth are beginning to feel a little short, (gnash, gnash).
I bought it
for three reasons; personal protection primarily, an ambition to
get into shooting sports (old target archer), and to step up from
9MM to 40 S&W.
My 9MM Ruger
P95DC is a one-hole shooter but there's a slight problem with the
operator, hopefully to be cured by the 9000S. I have so much confidence
in this miracle, that I've already sold the P95 to my brother, as
he lasciviously leered at my Beretta . . . and no, he can't shoot
it. He's gonna hafta get his own fantasy.
I'll get back
with you after it drags me to the range and let you know how it
felt. It's time for me to work on that 'one-hole' thing again and
I can't wait.

as an off duty weapon. I've stopped looking at other pistols from
that time on. The Fed had us carry something other than a Beretta,

the 92F always works, and I can hit with it. Some say the 9mm is
too small. I say hit the spot and it will get the job done. It has
been proven for over 100 years!
In 2001 my wife and

I
bought my 92F in 1992 from a local gun shop. This was my first Beretta
firearm. I am a licensed security officer, and have been so from
1979. At the time I worked for the Federal Reserve Bank. I have
used this handgun for home protection, work, and competition shooting.
I've fired some 10,000 rounds without a malfunction. It's been one
of the best handguns I have owned. Many police officers I work with
say the same. I think so much of Beretta; I went out and got a 3032
tomcat in 1998 as a backup to my 92F. This handgun has worked without
fail, and is one of the best small handguns I have owned. When a
meth user tried to break into my home I had the tomcat in my pocket.
The fact I had one of your handguns with me at the time stopped
this crime and kept my family safe.
Thank You for making a great handguns, keep up
the good work.

I carried a Beretta as a police officer and still carry one in my
personal life today. I load lots of +P and wide JHP's. I've owned
3 model 92's and have never had a problem. It is a robus,t accurate,
fast pistol. It is very easy to rhythm fire. For a long time I bounced
between SIG's and Beretta's but in the end the Beretta is where
I'm gonna stay. Keep it up. Use Mec Gar or Beretta magazines and
the damn things are bulletproof reliable!

Being a veteran I bought a OD92FS at a
recent gun show. After an initial cleaning I fired over 500 rounds
in one range visit using winchester fmj 115 grain from Walmart.
Not one jam on this pistol. The accuracy was great to the end out
25 yards. Grouping was 2 inches or less. For dependability and accuracy
you can't go wrong with this model. I now have Hogue grips on it
and is now at 1.5 inch groups.

I am within 2-2.5 years
of retirement and have recently decided to enhance my personal arms
battery with Berettas. The first time on range with my new Elite
II, I got mad because i couldn't "find" the sights and
saw only one hole at the lower left of my Shoot-N-See target as
I fired. When the range was cold, I walked the 15 yards to the target
and saw one hole with 11 bullets that I literally covered with a
quarter. In and of itself, this is impressive but the fact I was
shooting mixed commercial ammo says it all. The same thing happened
20 minutes later with my new 9000, although the hole was just a
bit larger. None the less, I shall always have Beretta in my house.

I
have been an armed security guard since I was legally able to do
so, Since that day, I have carried my 92FS. I have thought of carrying
others, I have bought and sold them, but Beretta will always be
in my holster.
Today I am an armored car guard and MUST trust my sidearm with my
life. I chose my 92 over the company issue .38 revolver. (Was there
any doubt?) I love the accuracy of the weapon as well as the pre-ban
Hi-cap mags. Being in the type of business that I'm in, I thought
of going with the .45 but do not care for the choices out there.
Like I said I love the features of the 92. So I wonder, will Beretta
make a .45 in the 92 design? (oh please,oh please,oh please)
Thanks for everything.....

I have been carrying
Beretta Model 92's since I purchased an Italian made 92SB in 1984
while I was in the Marines. I had zero faith in the crappy 1911's
that we were issued at the time. I was a Primary Marksmanship Instructor,
and shot on a Marine Corps Rifle and Pistol Team. The 1911's were
incredibly unreliable, even though the armorers babied them. I was
very happy when the Corps went to the Beretta, and got my 92F in 1987.
When I went into Law Enforcement, I purchased
a 92F, and carried it for many years while working as a city cop.
I was the department high shooter with it for many years, and had
also shot competitively while in the Corps, and on the SWAT team.
It saw many tours of duty, since I was assigned to both narcotics
and SWAT at the time. We would shoot at the sniper ranges, and after
we were done with the rifles, we would grab some pistol ammo, and
work on knockdown targets at 100 and 200 yards with our pistols.
People were amazed at the accuracy of the Beretta, and I could drop
the knockdowns 9 out of 10 times at 200 yards. (I won quite a few
free beers that way!)
I needed a backup gun for Narcotics, so I decided
to go with the best, and bought a second Beretta 92F!
When I became Chief of a small rural community
near salt water, I switched to the Stainless 92F, which I dearly
love, and it's one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.
My final upgrade was to the Stainless 92 Vertec,
which maintains the same high standards of all of the others, with
a few wonderful improvements. I was worried about the change in
the grip, but it still points as perfect as ever, and having the
light/laser mounted on the gun for building searches is a wonderful
feature.
I've been betting my life on Beretta Pistols every
day for over 20 years. I can purchase and carry any pistol in the
world. I've shot them all, and tried them all. I'll stick with my
Beretta. There was an old saying in the old West; "Beware the
man with one gun". Especially if that gun is a Beretta!
Keep up the good work!

I've been carrying a 92F since 1987 when my agencies SRT team decided
on it as the teams side arm of choice. I have to tell you that I
fired thousands of rounds in this pistol, rapid fire succession
with multiple magazine exchanges during a course of fire. I had
the barrel hot enough to burn you and never a malfunction. It just
seem to get smoother with age and of course my intimate familiarity
over time. Just a fine reliable pistol and I'm still "totin'

The 40 S&W is one of the best calibers I have ever used. I originally

While competing at
the NY Adjutant Generals match in Camp Smith this year we had two
competitors shooting the old govt. model 45. It was nothing but
incessant jamming, magazine changes due to tap rack procedures etc.
One of the "gentlemen" was tossed out of the match because
his jam clearing procedures looked dangerous to the range safety
officer. At the end of the match I approached one of these "gentlemen"
and told him he was using a dinosaur. He was still sputtering nonsense
about the 45 when I left in disgust. The US military has been using
Beretta for almost twenty years now and still the "Dinosaur
Lovers" carp, criticize and whine about their relics of the
past. The 45 can't compete in a rapid fire high capacity world.
I wish the gun writers and "aficionados" would give it
a rest.

I have been to several armorer schools and shot

issues the Model 22 40cal. I went to a NRA school and got done shooting
1000 rounds I had metal flakes coming off of the inside of the slide,
I was told no big deal just take a hard Arkansas stone to it and
it should be okay. (I don't think I'd ever hear that from Beretta)
Thank God I don't have to carry that Glock much, and that I can
carry the best on my hip.

I was a dyed-in-the-wool 1911A1 man until I purchased my Beretta

the M92, it's just not the same. I tried several pistols before
selecting the Beretta. The Glock kept jamming and the Sig felt unsafe.
I thought the military made a mistake switching from the old .45

This will not be a
surprise for those who have a Beretta firearm, but this was my first,
and is a great story. I am a Deputy Sheriff in Buchanan County,
Missouri, and as a smaller community (90,000), we have no private
County range. I had purchased my 96FS just 2 weeks prior to this
event and was enjoying every bit of it. As I was putting my 400th
rounds downrange, a local had arrived with an H&K .308. Nice
rifle, but an obviously inexperienced shooter. At 25 yards, I had
a 3.5-inch grouping after 100-200 rounds and feeling good. This
guy had 40 shots he brought with him, to the 25-yard pistol area
mind you. After 25 shots, his target had not one hole in it. So
this guy attached a Styrofoam shell carrier to the top of the net
and attempted to hit this. After admiring his rifle, I figured I'd
say "hey", and maybe let him squeeze some off in one of
the greatest pistols ever made as trade for some shots on his .308.
It worked. But first I asked him if I could try at that styrofoam
with my pistol, "sure", he says. He hadn't hit it in six
shots. I raised my 96, squeezed that trigger and that styrofoam
flew in the air. Now, the H&K is nice, but like I said, this
guy obviously didn't shoot much. Everyone on the range was impressed
and thought I was showing off my skills. I haven't shot handguns
but for the last year through the Academy. I was showing off the
awesome, out-of-the-box accuracy of these fine guns. I was even
impressed. Thanks guys, I have never been happier. Now I have to
save up for that beautiful mirrored-finish, 470th anniversary Model
96. Then I'll be happy for a while. Thanks Beretta.

I had extensive experience
with M9 Beretta in the Marines, so naturally I bought one when my
contract was up. I qualified expert 3 times, and went to Security
Forces shooting school in Chesapeake, VA 2 times. Anyway, I used the
M9 in all of this shooting. I never really thought a lot about the
weapon, because it was our only choice. Now that have had the opportunity
to compare the Beretta with others like the Glock, Sigma, 1911's,
Sig, Taurus, Smith, and even double and single action revolvers. There
is no comparison. The Beretta shoots more accurately, is WAY more
reliable, and has a larger magazine capacity. I have never been so
impressed with 1 gun in my life. This is saying something, since I
have 34 others. Well-done guys.

I am a Deputy in Louisiana
and want to tell you about an incident that happened where the half-cock
feature on the 92 saved me. I responded to a fight in progress,
inside of a vehicle, at a local gas station. Upon arrival I was
advised that one of the combatants had a gun. I was able to remove
the occupant with the gun and hold him in a cover position until
help arrived; however, the second subject picked up the gun that
fell on the floorboard and was getting ready to point it at me.
I turned to cover him and yelled at him to drop the gun. He did
as he was instructed and soon my back up arrived. I then attempted
to reholster my 92 and found the gun on half-cock. It seems I was
extremely close to firing on this subject. I soon learned that the
subject I was close to shooting was a car jack victim that was also
kidnapped. This subject was fighting with the perpetrator in order
to escape. I believe that if I carried any other type of duty weapon
the hammer might have fell that night, with very negative results!
I am very glad my Department issues the Beretta 92.

a new 50mm red dot scope. Wow what a nice carbine it is now. The
scope allows you to be able to see the standard sights right through
and the red dot at the same time. Of course the scope was easy to
set without firing a single shot. I went to the range and at 50
yards was shooting the wooden cloths line clips that were holding
the target up. It was a great deal of fun and everyone around wanted
to shoot the new rifle. After 500 rounds everyone was able to and
we spread around the love for the CX4. I think quite a few will
be sold around here now.
