Walk
into any good gun-shop around closing hour. Make
it past the accessories-racks, and wind your way
to the main counter. There, you will find the trusty
store owner, perched on his stool talking to a
long-time customer. The talk is knowledgeable talk,
talk borne of years of experience, opinions, trials
and confirmations.
And
then, mention the name “Sako.” What
you will see is the two old hands smiling and breathing
deeply, almost savoring the light scent of gun-oil
saturating the air. Sako. “That’s one
good rifle for darned sure.”
Ever
since Sako became known to American sportsmen about
half a century ago, this name has been so much
more than a brand. Sako means durability, ruggedness,
reliability, performance, value and – most
of all – accuracy. But among all the models
that made it into the US market, the 75 represents
the absolute best yet.
Developed
in 1997, the Sako 75 action is the pinnacle of
that firm’s eighty-plus years of riflemaking
experience.
The trigger
group is completely made in-house, and
was radically reengineered to coincide with the
launch of the 75. Its secret is simplicity: by
reducing the number of moving parts and adjustment
components, the Sako 75 trigger has set a new
industry standard in crispness, lightness and
ease of adjustment. But don’t take our
word for it: dry-fire one at your store
The action is
the awesome, vault-like, three-lug receiver so
prized by custom gunsmiths. Safe, massive and extra-stiff,
the 75 action comes in five sizes, so that cartridge
fit is maximized while weight and bolt-travel are
kept to a minimum.
The bolt is
one piece: forged from a single block of metal,
the body, handle and three locking lugs add stiffness
to the action making the rifle hyper-accurate and
bolt-operation the smoothest. Furthermore, the
Sako 75 bolt is easily field-stripped (in one motion!),
not requiring any tools or accessories. We do,
however, provide a bolt-reassembly “cookie” to
make reassembly even easier.
The barrel is
match-grade, cold-hammer forged, free-floating
with a custom-grade, hand-turned crown. Thanks
to the exceptional quality of the barrels, Sako
guarantees that each of their rifles is
capable of minute-of-angle accuracy right out of
the box. No other production-rifle manufacturer
can make this claim. How can we be so confident?
Because every rifle is put to the test before being
shipped to the USA. So every Sako 75 rifle you
see on your store’s rack has shot into a
minute of angle. It’s that simple.
The scope-mounting
system features integral, massive, tapered
dovetails. These are the anchor for our own Sako
Optilock™ bases and rings. Once you sight
in your rifle, you can detach the scope, rings
and bases as a unit, put them in your suitcase,
and reassemble them on the site of your hunt.
Your zero will still be there.
Sako
is also backed by Beretta USA. As
avid sporting firearm users ourselves, we realize
that sometimes purchasing a foreign brand can raise
some anxiety. How long is the firearm going to
be imported? How long are replacement parts going
to be available? Will the company honor their warranty
six months from now? Rest assured that with Beretta
USA behind them, Sako rifles are as good or better
in that regard as the most established US brand.
The
Sako 75 is a whole family of products,
designed to meet every shooter’s most demanding
needs. We do in fact offer 10 models, from the
rugged and classic Sako 75 Hunter to the classy
and striking Deluxe – from the sexy Finnlight
to the tack-driving Varmint Stainless Laminated.
Check out the Sako 75 families on our product page.
So,
next time you are at your good gun-shop around
closing hour, ask for a Sako. Try one for yourself
and understand why the old hands smile at the mention
of this awesome brand.
