Beretta Gallery Expeditions
Argentina
Visit
June 2004
We had perfect
weather all ten days of our Bird And Big Game
Hunts in Argentina. The group of eight guns came
to Buenos Aires a couple of days early to shop,
sight see and get accustomed to the beautiful
South American climate. We started off with duck
and dove at Estancia la Giralda, a place we had
never stayed before, but which proved to be a
real find, as it gave one a feeling of being
in Argentina in the “good old days.”
Jochen Von
der Goltz came with his daughter Anne Marie,
son Andreas and wife Belle. Ann Marie was on
her first major hunt and proved to be a real
trooper. She was always ready for duck, dove
or perdiz.
One day after
our pointer took lame, we managed eighteen Perdiz
without any dogs. Lee Horn of Wharton and Anne
Marie of Yale, held up the Ivy League’s
end as their fathers just tagged along picking
up their prodigy’s shot birds.
The ducks
and doves were as numerous as one hears about,
but are always amazed to find no matter how many
times you come to Argentina. Andreas proved to
be a man on a mission each time he took to a
stand.
We next moved
to Estancia Las Colas, and again got into some
serious numbers of birds. Khalid Al Tajir and
Nicola Jones were in from Dubai to make up the
rest of the line, which included “Dead
Eye” Debbie Horn. Nicola was on her first
wild Duck hunt and was game for anything. As I
think back over the trip, the women were much less
trouble than the men.
At the end
of the trip, several of us headed to the border
of Uruguay for some free range Big Game hunting.
Debbie was always the first one ready in the
morning. It must have been all those safaris
that taught her, “The early bird catches
the worm”.
After two
and a half days of hunting, we managed two (2)
Axis deer and a Big Wild Boar (Khalid).
We have already booked this week for next year
with a group that heard about our success the week
we returned. If you are interested in joining another
hunt or having one tailored for you, please contact
Peter Horn in New York at (212) 319-3235 or John
Herlitz in Dallas at (214) 584-9200 for further
details.
