On October 3rd 1526, the Venice Arsenal issued a receipt for 296 ducats paid for the 185 arquebus barrels produced by Maestro Bartolomeo Beretta, testifying the oldest Beretta documented supply. From an idea by Sereno Innocenti and Maurizio Abrami, thanks to the endorsement of Ugo Gussalli Beretta. One afternoon at the end of March, by pure luck and coincidence, Sereno Innocenti meets Maurizio Abrami in his pen store, Lazzaroni-Gioielli. The meeting takes place in the laboratory, a genuine “ sancta sanctorum” of the fountain pen, but it is later on, at the table of an old tavern in the hills of Genoa, that is given way to the birth of the first sketch of the Beretta pen, within the grids of a borrowed piece of paper. Then it was improved and detailed to create a real form, and a shape was materialized by the intertwining of colored pencils, and the avant-project was thus born. For Sereno Innocenti, professor at the Engineering Faculty, the meeting with Beretta is in a certain sense the continuation of the University of Brescia curriculum with one of the leading companies in the province of Brescia; for Abrami (that has created many series of fountain pens produced by different companies such as Mille Miglia and the City of Brescia) a single coincidence between two objects, the gun and the pen. Whether you are holding a pen or a gun in your hand, your touch must be delicate but strong at the same time. The design and guide lines of the project were born form the dimensional and geometric relationship with the barrel and the pistol mount, while the Beretta trademark, ornamented with three arrows, is used to give form and origin to the clip of the pen. The same material used to create the product follows the spirit of the gun without forgetting to also dignify its being, in this case a pen. The product is completed by a specific package with the drawing of the outline of the gun and the reproduction of Villa Beretta, since ever the global icon of the brand.
